MDL 2179 - Oil Spill by the Oil Rig "Deepwater Horizon"
Joseph ("JoJo") Tann, JD, MBA, M.Acc was retained to work with the court-appointed Neutrals/Special Masters in MDL - 2179 Oil Spill by the Oil Rig "Deepwater Horizon." Serving as liaison counsel to the Neutrals, JoJo personally communicated with hundreds of law firms and pro se plaintiffs to help them navigate the Neutrals Process. Ultimately, the Court-Appointed Neutrals Process reached settlements with some 20,000 claimants. The aggregate amount of these settlements is approximately $5.1 billion.

MDL 2804 - National Prescription Opiate Litigation

JoJo represents local governments in MDL - 2804 In Re: National Opiate Litigation. He was one of the principal architects and lead negotiators of the One Arizona Distribution of Opioid Settlement Funds Agreement, a landmark agreement that achieved 100% participation of all eligible governmental entities and expects to allocate more than a billion dollars in funding to the State of Arizona and its political subdivisions to be used for opioid education, prevention, and treatment. He is one of the few lawyers individually recognized in each of the multibillion-dollar national opioid settlement agreements for his contributions to the litigation.
Mr. Tann was retained as the official Advisor to the Court-Appointed Fee Panel and subsequently named Executive Director of the National Opioid Contingency Fee Fund. He has allocated $640 million and, in total, expects to allocate and distribute more than a billion dollars in contingency fee payments to the law firms responsible for recovering more than $50 billion from the opioid industry.
Mr. Tann also serves as the court-appointed Special Master in the Alabama Opioid Litigation. As the Alabama Special Master, he has allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to Alabama local governments.

MDL 2193 - In Re: Juul Labs, Inc. Marketing, Sales Practices & Products Liability Litigation
JoJo and his co-counsel represented several of Arizona's largest school districts against JUUL Labs, Inc in MDL 2193 In Re: Juul Labs, Inc. Marketing, Sales Practices & Products Liability Litigation. The legal team recovered millions of dollars for more than 200 Arizona schools and 185,000 students.

MDL 2873 - In Re: Aqueous Film-Forming Foams (AFFF) Products Liability Litigation
Mr. Tann represents the State of Arizona and 17 Arizona cities and towns in the MDL No. 2873 In Re: Aqueous Film-Forming Foams (AFFF) Products Liability Litigation. These cities and towns lawsuits accuse the manufacturers of "Forever Chemicals" of negligence and of creating a public nuisance by contaminating our drinking water with PFAS. The litigation is ongoing, but as of the mid-2024, the public water providers have reached settlements with 3M (more than $10 billion), Dupont de Nemours Inc. ($1.185 billion), Tyco Fire Products ($750 million), and BASF Corporation ($316.5 million). These settlements are expected to produce hundreds of millions of dollars for Arizona cities and towns.
